The Conduit is a journaling solo horror RPG where you play a character who begins to receive telepathic messages.
The game was inspired by the real-life intersection of spirituality and science-fiction: the UFO cultists who believe that flying saucers will take them to Heaven. The mediums who claim to channel civilizations from inside the Hollow Earth. The New Age gurus who are guided by extraterrestrial forces.
The Conduit will prompt you to build a one-of-a-kind mythology, unfolding through a series of diary entries as you discover the source of the telepathic messages, the true nature of the cosmos, and a threat that looms over the world…
The final journal can be enjoyed as a book of fiction, or it can be used as a prop in any role-playing game that dabbles in the occult.
Written by Laszlo Tamasfi and illustrated by Jozsef Svab.
This game successfully Kickstarted in 2022.
The premise of the game is fairly simple: somebody, living in our contemporary modern world, begins to receive telepathic messages.
At first, they do not know where these messages originate from, or why they are receiving them. Only the following three things are understood immediately:
- What the messages say is true.
- What the messages ask, your character must do.
- Your character must write down everything they learn.
This is, in a nutshell, all you really need to know about the world of The Conduit. The game was designed to dance the fine line between religious revelations and science-fiction, but don't worry, it's much more interested in talking to the spirits of dinosaurs or communicating with a secret Moon colony than dissecting any one religion!
The Conduit is a writing exercise that incorporates elements of crafting.
The game revolves around 29 journal entries, one for each day of a Moon cycle. It is meant to be played in 29 consecutive days, but in reality, you can do it in any timeframe that works for you. You can take days off, or even complete the entire journey in a couple of sittings!
You will be presented with a prompt for each journal entry. Most of them will feature an element of chance (in the form of a die roll from a chart), but they will all require you to unleash your imagination. The Conduit is, at the end of the day, a creative exercise. There is no winning in the game, per say, other than having a completed journal at the end.
MECHANICS
We hope you like lists!
Aside from some simple core rules, the main mechanic of The Conduit is that you roll a ten-sided die to select an option from a list. Most prompts come with a list of ten variations of a particular theme.
There is one other type of resolution mechanic that the game uses. From time-to-time, you will be asked to interact with your surroundings in order to find a solution to a question. You might be asked to flip open a random book from your bookshelf to find a word or look at the expiration date of a food item in your pantry to find out when a future event will happen to your character.
CRAFTING
It is probably best to note up front that The Conduit also incorporates some elements of crafting. At certain points you will be asked to get the scissors out, cut photos from magazines, assemble collages, and things like that. But don’t worry, none of these instructions will require outstanding artistic skills! After all, you’re creating the diary of an everyday person haunted by visions, and the potential crudeness of the art is meant to add to its overall mood.
